JD Harvill; aka HotlantaVoyeur

PHOTOGRAPHY

Jon Davis Harvill II received his first 35M Camera, a Nikon EM, while taking a photo developing course at Henderson High School in West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1979.

JD took pictures at school and at home; primarily studio artistic photography, but it didn't take him long to invent street photography.

JD had developed a secret life, and with that a stealthy nature. It was natural that he started capturing his world with a sharp eye and a quick hand.

During college he took long strolls around campus, and while other young people where "hooking up", JD captured physiques and faces from a distance.

There are a cloudy grey lines between photo journalist, paparazzi, and voyeur. JD shuffles the lines like an easily distracted toddler.

When JD had the opportunity to run off to Germany for two years, for work, he took it, and his trusty Nikon EM came with him.

JD returned with, a new boyfriend and, hundreds of new photographs and negatives, as well as several dozen rolls of undeveloped film.

There is still a drawer in JD's basement with over 50 rolls of spent film. Close to 1500 photographs might still be developed from them.

With the introduction of the digital camera in the early 21st Century, the cost of capturing and displaying photographs dropped drastically.

In 2008 JD began his HotlantaVoyeur Flickr account, which today houses over 86,000 photographs. There you can witness for yourself the social experiment that is JD's Street Photographer persona.

There were times when JD would take 2000+ photographs in a single weekend event, but he is in recovery from that addiction and now takes only several hundred at any one event.

The benefits of actually getting from behind the camera and living in the moment are immense, though his 4300+ Flickr Followers might disagree.

Mixed in with that collection are several dozen studio photography shoots, where JD proves his merit with lighting and backdrops, some of which occurred with film back in the late 80's.

If you are an exhibitionist, you might want to contact JD through his HotlantaVoyeur profile on ModelMayhem, where photographers and models connect.
